Film Screening: “The Well” at the Consulate General of Algeria in NYC

On Saturday, December 3rd, the Consul General of Algeria in New York, Mrs. Sabria Boukdoum, hosted a film screening: “ The Well “ and welcomed the Director and Producer, Mr. Lotfi Bouchouchi who is visiting New York and Los Angeles, so that his movie reaches a worldwide audience necessary for the Oscars.
In addition to prizes won in Malmo Arab Film Festival, Maghreb Film Festival in Oujda, Muscat International Film Festival, “The Well” is the winner of Best Arabic Film, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay awards at the Alexandria International Film Festival.
“The Well” is submitted to the 2017 Oscar representing Algeria at the 89th Academy Awards for the best foreign language film. The winner will be announced during the OSCAR ceremony on the 26th February 2017
The featured movie “ The Well” was produced in 2015, it recounts the story of women and their children in a village in southern Algeria and how, they had to choose the way they would die, because they were besieged for several days by the colonial army's soldiers, who deprived them from drinking water.
The movie is meant as a new approach to further illustrate the absurdity of armed conflicts through the lens of the suffering of women and children. It constitutes an objective and timeless testimony of the valiant struggle of these vulnerable human categories against the throes of colonialism.
The event brought together dozens of members from the Algerian community in NYC, friends of Algeria and officials, representative from consular and diplomatic corps and different organizations such as the UN who enjoyed the screening, followed by a lively Q&A session afterwards with the director Lotfi Bouchouchi.
The Algerian artist Kenza Morsli, named the 2016 Biggest Fan "Big Apple Music Awards" [ Updated on: December 1st, 2016 ]
The Consul General of Algeria in New-York, Mrs. Sabria Boukadoum, received the Algerian artist Kenza Morsli, winner of the 2016 Big Apple Music Awards in the category of Biggest Fan.
Mrs. Boukadoum, Congratulated Kenza Morsli for this achievement and wished her more success in her artistic career.
Mrs. Morsli is the first Algerian artist to win this award granted by the Big apple Music Awards Foundation in a big ceremony organized every year in New-York City to celebrate the most talented artist of the year.
Commemoration of the 62nd Anniversary of the Outbreak
of the Algerian revolution [ Updated on: November 15th, 2016 ]
On the occasion of the commemoration of the 62nd Anniversary of the Outbreak of the Algerian revolution, the Consulate General of Algeria in NYC, hosted on the 5th of November 2016, a reception, attended by the members of the community, representatives of associations and friends of Algeria.
The Consul General, Mrs. Sabria Boukadoum addressed the invitees in both national languages Arabic & Tamazight and in English to evoke the symbol and the significance of the historical celebration. She outlined the heroic revolution and the sacrifices that the Algerian people made to gain independence.
Moreover, the Consul General emphasized that the responsibility lies on the generation born after independence to preserve sovereignty and develop the economy. This generation cannot afford to fail in this endeavor that should involve all Algerian nationals including immigrants. Algerian based abroad can play a prominent role in the development process.
As part of the ceremony, Mrs. Sabria Boukadoum invited the attendees to observe a minute of silence to pay tribute to the martyrs and rise to listen to national anthem.
The commemoration program included a photography exhibition that is on view at the Consulate General of Algeria in NYC to focus on the 1st November revolution its international impact. The exhibition is comprised of several posters that outline the struggle of the Algerian people for independence. Algerian Film screening is scheduled to show films in connection with the glorious liberation war, featuring heroic martyrs whose names are engraved in the history of our country such as Krim Belkacem, Colonel Lotfi, Ben Boulaid and Ahmed Zabana.
The attendees enjoyed a chaabi and Andalus musical band who offered an evening of exceptional Algerian musical heritage.
The Algerian, Hichem Lahreche, named one of the 2016 Top ten Chocolatiers in North America [ Updated on: October 22th, 2016 ]
The selection of the Top Ten Chocolatiers honors North American-based chocolatiers whose craft is distinctive and has elevated the chocolate industry.
Hichem Lahreche, an Algerian residing in the state of Florida, was honored among the top ten outstanding chocolate artisans at an inaugural Top Ten Chocolatiers in North American event hosted by the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in NYC.
In reference to this recognition, the Consul General of Algeria in New York, Mrs. Sabria Boukadoum congratulated Mr. Lahrache indicating that this achievement should serve as an example to members of the Algerian community in the US. It should pave the way for achieving further distinctions in other areas, and motivate them to develop their skills.
Hichem Lahreche is also a pastry chef artist specialized in garnishing chocolate pastries, uses in his confections fine ingredients inspired from the Algerian culinary such as olive oil, figs, and mint.

Happy "Youm El Ilm "
This year the AASA has decided to announce the competition today and celebrate the students who won the contest at the beginning of November 2016 for the Algerian revolution day celebration celebration.
You will be able to select two topics:
1 The significance and origin of youm El - Ilm
2 The description of one of your role models who you think had an impact on Algeria. The role model could be a nobel prize laureate, a writer, or any one of your choosing.
The details on the competition will be announced during the month of May and students will have the whole summer to prepare thier project.
