Register to Vote in the election of members of the People's National Assembly (APN) on Thursday 4th May 2017 [ Updated on: February 04th 2017 ]
In accordance with provisions of Article 91-6 of the Constitution, and relevant provisions of the organic law N. 10-16 on the electoral system, His Excellency Abdelaziz Bouteflika, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, on Thursday 4th February 2017, signed the decree convening the electorate to the election of members of the People's National Assembly (APN) on Thursday 4 May 2017.
Also, the decree set the period from 8 to 22 February 2017 for the exceptional revision of electoral lists.
According to the Organic Law No. 16-10 of January 25th 2016 relating to the electoral system, mainly its articles, 03, 04, 06 and 7:
Is considered “an elector”, all Algerians, women and men, who are eighteen (18) years old and enjoys civil and political rights, and who in any case, is not suffering from incapacities provided for by the legislation in force.
No one can vote if he or she is not registered on the electoral list.
Registration on the electoral roll is a duty for every citizen who meets the conditions legally required
All Algerians, men and women, enjoying their civil and political rights and who have never been enlisted on an electoral list, should apply for their registration.
The Consulate General reminds that registration to vote is a willful act, and that a consular registration does not imply systematically a registration on the electoral rolls.
1 First registration on the electoral list: Qualifications to Register:
Be an Algerian citizen
Be 18 years old by May 04th 2017
Resident at your current address
Enjoying their civil and political rights (no criminal convictions)
To avoid duplicate voter records, registration is eligible only on one list, at the current place of residence.

General Conditions Applicable to All Candidates
General Conditions applicable to all candidates for membership through election in the People's National Assembly are covered in Article 92 of the Organic Law on the Electoral System, which provides that any candidate to membership in the People's National Assembly must:
Meet the requirements listed in Article 3 of the Organic Law on the electoral System and be registered in the electoral district in which s/he is running;
Be at least twenty-five (25) years of age on Election Day;
Be a Citizen of Algeria;
Have performed, or been released of obligations of, draft military service;
Not having been convicted and sentenced to incarceration for any offense or crime and be non-rehabilitated, except for involuntary offences.
Required Documentation for Application
For National Level Electoral Districts
Statement of performance or waiver of obligation of draft military service;
Algerian Citizenship Certificate;
Extract No. 3 of the judicial record;
One (1) ID picture
Extract of Birth Certificate for candidates born overseas and not listed in the National Automated Civil Status Register;
Copy of the minutes reported by the chairman of the electoral district commission, whenever a slate of candidates is affected by registration of individual voter signatures;
Copy of the program to be developed by the candidate during the electoral campaign, in the case of no-party candidates;
• Statement of sponsorship for candidates running as affiliated to one or several political parties.
For Overseas Electoral Districts
Slate of candidates presented at diplomatic and consular representations requires that candidates (full and alternate) provide the following additional documents:
Copy of Algerian passport or National Identification Card;
Extract of the judicial record issued by the competent authorities of the country of residence;
Copy of the candidate's Consular Registration Card;
Copy of the candidate's Voter Card or statement of registration on the Electoral List.
The diplomatic and consular representations will request on behalf of each candidate an extract of their judicial record from the competent national authorities.
Party candidates must submit either a statement of sponsorship of their candidacy issued by the leadership of the political party or parties they are affiliated with or a statement from the leadership of the political party or parties authorizing the candidate to represent them locally.
No-party candidates must submit evidence of at least two hundred (200) signatures provided by registered voters residing in their electoral district in support of their candidacy.
Update: Meeting with Algerian Associations in US [ Updated on: February 8th 2017 ]
The Consulate General of Algeria in New York wishes to inform its community members that the meeting to be held with Algerians Associations in US at the Consulate headquarter on February 18th, 2017 has been postponed to a later date.
The purpose of this rescheduling is, in fact, to allow the participation of large number of representatives of Algerian Associations in the United States and Community active members at the meeting.

Military Service Census [ Updated on: January 9th 2017 ]
According to the provisions of the Act 14-06 promulgated in August 9th, 2014, all male citizens who reached the age of 17 are required to register themselves on the list of military service census. This year process, which started on January 1st, 2017, will last till September 30th, 2017. Our concerned nationals, born between January 1st and December 31st, 2000, are kindly invited to send one (01) original birth certificate to the Consulate General, Military Service Office, 15 E 47th Street, NYC 10017 (Please include a note stating the purpose of sending the birth certificate).
Please include also a prepaid self-addressed return envelope if you want to get an enrollment certificate.
Failure to enroll will result in losing all rights to deferment or exemption.
Biometric, Electronic National Identification Card [ Updated on: November 15th, 2016 ]
The Consulate General of Algeria in NYC informs its community members that an online service is available to enable Algerian nationals based abroad, holders of biometric passports and a National Identification Number (NIN), to apply for a Biometric, Electronic National Identification Card.

Notification of withdrawal of passport [ Updated on: November 22nd, 2016 ]
The Consulate General of Algeria in New York invites its community members, residing within the 44 states of its jurisdiction, whose passports are confirmed ready on the consulate website through the link " track your biometric passport" to get in touch, immediately, with the passport department for the withdrawal of their biometric passport.
It shall be made known to all Algerian nationals that pursuant to the provisions set out in the Act 14/03, dated on 24th February 2014 relating to permits and travel documents, and in particular article 10: « Any passport acquired and not withdrawn by the holder is destroyed 6 months after the announced notice of withdrawal.
In such cases, except in cases of force majeure, the stamp duty required for the application of a new passport is equal to twice the stamp duty prescribed. Please check the attached list of receipt number, indicating passports available at the consulate. This list will be updated soon.

Inauguration of the Consulate General of Algeria in New York [ Updated on: September 28th, 2016 ]
Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra officially inaugurated, Thursday, the new headquarters of the consulate general of Algeria in New
The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of the minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel, the Algerian ambassador to Washington Madjid Bouguerra and the Consul General of Algeria in New York, Sabria Boukadoum.
Representatives of the associative movement and members of the national community also took part in this EVENT.
The opening of this headquarters, operational for a few months, is part of the program of the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to better address the concerns of the national community abroad and the improvement of services.
After unveiling the inaugural plate of the new headquarters of the consulate general and visited its different departments, the minister of State delivered a speech in which he reiterated the constant commitment of the Algerian government to further improve the consular services representations abroad. Furthermore, he insisted on the importance of the contribution of members of the community to the efforts of national development and the participation of experts to various socio-economic projects that would enhance partnership with the USA.
Mrs. Sabria Boukadoum, the Consul General, underlined, in her speech, the importance of putting in place proper infrastructure to provide a better service. Besides the inauguration of the new headquarters will open doors to undertake further activities in addition to the consular and administrative ones. Military Service Announcement[ Updated on: August 17th, 2016 ]
Our nationals born between January 1 st and December 31 st 1993 as well as nationals born before 1993 who abandoned or finished their studies on or before December 31 st , 2013 are hereby informed that the Ministry of National Defense has launched a new operation of regularizing their status vis-à- vis the military service.
Concerned citizens who did not get yet their exemption card are required to send a new application including the following:
01 copy of the last obtained diploma, school certificate or certificate of abandonment.
02 standard photos.

We remind our nationals born between January 1 st and December 31 st 1999 that they are required to enroll themselves on the list of military service census by sending one (01) original copy of birth certificate to the Consulate General before September 30 th , 2016. 1- Dans le cadre de la poursuite des réformes profondes du secteur de la justice, axe principal du programme de Son Excellence, le président de la République, le Ministère de la Justice informe les citoyens algériens résidant à l'étranger, qu'à partir de mercredi 22 juin 2016, il est désormais possible de présenter des demandes de rectification des erreurs survenues dans les registres de l'état civil, tenus au niveau des représentations diplomatiques et consulaires.
2- Cette mesure de modernisation de l’administration et de rapprochement du citoyen de l’administration s'opère à travers l'utilisation d'un nouveau mécanisme de rectification automatique des documents et ce, en se rapprochant des locaux diplomatiques et consulaires, évitant ainsi le déplacement sur Alger.
3- En conséquence, les ressortissants algériens résidant aux Etats Unis dans l`un des (44) Etats, relevant de la circonscription du Consulat Général d`Algérie à New York, pourront présenter leurs demandes de rectification des erreurs survenues dans les registres de l'état civil, au niveau Consulat Général d`Algérie à New York (formulaire de demande de rectification des erreurs des actes de l`état civil).

The Consulate General of Algeria in New York wishes to inform its community members living in the United States,
who have already applied for a biometric passport that is not yet ready for pick up, they can enter Algeria,
with a valid Algerian Identity Card and a USA passport (Foreign passport). This measure expires on 31st of October, 2016.
An Algerian Identity Card can be issued the same day when the applicant appears in the Consulate office

a new operation of financing economic investments and major infrastructure projects called
“National Bond Issue for Economic Growth”.
In this regard, the Ministry of Finance invites our nationals living abroad, including the United States,
to subscribe to this national bond issue, open to public subscription since April 17th, 2016, and participate
in the economic development of our country.
Terms and conditions of issue of this national loan are set by the Ministerial Order of March 28th,
2016, published in the Official Journal N 20 of March 30th, 2016.

Due to the increase in the number of cases of loss of passport within the postal services, the Consulate General requires that requests for documents of identity or travel (Passport, National Identity, Military Exemption Cards) introduced by mail be imperatively accompanied by a prepaid certified mail return envelope. Non-compliant requests to this rule will not be processed.
